How Do We Respond To Horrific Evil?

December 16, 2012 Speaker: Chris Oliveri

Topic: Evil

In light of the grisly murders committed this week in Newtown Connecticut, we are asking a critical question. How do we respond to this kind of horrific evil?

  1. It is right that we respond with sickened anger and weeping. (Habakkuk 1:2-3, 13)

  2. The Living God confronts this kind of evil head-on: He Describes it (Mark 7:20-23), He destroys it (Revelation 21:1-7)

  3. The Lord receives our heartfelt, wrestling questions. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

  4. The Lord is sovereign, using what people intend for evil for good. (Genesis 50:20)

  5. Children who die before the age of accountability are immediately ushered into the presence of God. Not because they are without sin, but because of God's sovereign and wise mercy. (2Samuel 12:23; Deuteronomy 1:39)

What do we do?

  1. Weep with those who weep. (Romans 12:15)

  2. Point to Jesus. (Isaiah 53:3; Acts 14:15, 26:18)
